A Wellness Chiropractor, Why Do I Need One?

Chiropractic is a profession based upon the understanding that the body is the best healer. Another way of saying this is that mankind has never improved upon nature. Chiropractors work to support the body by removing different stresses, which then allows the bodies inborn ability to health itself to be expressed. We believe that by naturally relieving stressors, we provide healthcare that is truly compatible with the human body. Stress can come in many different forms, including physical, nutritional and emotional. One of the major stressors in today’s society are physical forms of stress. This stress can occur due to a repetitive job, poor posture, poor working conditions, sports injuries, poor sleeping positions and many others.
Your spine plays a vital role in how well your body functions due to it's two main jobs. The first is to protect the spinal cord. The spinal cord is like a two-way highway of information going back and forth from the body to the brain. The second job, is to allow for support of the body while at the same time providing flexibility. This second job is where problems often arise and where chiropractors shine. Due to physical stressors, areas of the spine can often become restricted from their normal range of motion. Chiropractors call this restricted spinal motion, a SUBLUXATION. Although this does not sound like a major problem, if left uncorrected, these areas can become a major stressor that limits your bodies ability to heal itself. By having a chiropractor adjust these restricted spinal joints, normal motion can be restored and maintained.
So you might ask, how do chiropractors fit into the healthcare system? I will use an analogy to explain this issue. First, I would like you to think of Medical Doctors as the fire department. Next, I would like you to think of chiropractors as maintenance and repair contractors. If your house catches on fire, do not call the contractors, please call the fire department. The fire department will use their axes and hoses which are specifically designed for this occasion and do their absolute best to save your house. And you should thank them. However, the day after the fire, you would not call the fire department back to help you rebuild and then maintain your home. Rather you would call the contractors who would come in with their hammers and paint brushes which are specifically designed for this occasion and they will do their best to not only return your house to it's original form, but to also improve on it. This is exactly what a wellness chiropractor is trained to do. In my opinion, everyone should have a chiropractic evaluation a minimum of 2 to 3 times a year. This check-up is just like going to the dentist or getting your oil changed. Although these activities can be time consuming, they are absolutely necessary. Although this is definitely not the entire story it is a good place to start from.
